New Platform, Same Unhinged Bullsh*t

It's been a while, but I still exist!

Hi! I know it’s been ages since I’ve sent out any newsletters, so let me refresh your memory on who the hell I am. I’m Anna McCluskey; I write urban fantasy books for weirdos, and you probably got on this list when you met me at a convention, signing, or market OR when you backed a Kickstarter or BackerKit campaign of mine OR when you downloaded this free short story. Or some combination of those.

Please feel free to download that story, if you haven’t yet. It’s a prequel to my Mathilda Holiday series (urban fantasy, lots of spells flying, ass-kicking, secret society trying to kidnap and brainwash people — well, that’s the series. The prequel doesn’t have that last part yet). It will ask you to give your email address, but don’t worry, as long as you use the same address you’re getting this email on, you won’t get duplicates or anything.

And now some Things! First of all, you may or may not notice that this email is coming from SubStack, where before it came to you thru Flodesk, and before that it was like MailChimp or Mailerlite or one of those. I’m using SubStack now because it is free and versatile. It’s also just as easy for you to unsubscribe, so if you don’t want to be on this list anymore (I promise, you did sign up for at some point, but I know that things can change), feel free to hit that unsubscribe link at the bottom, and I will fuck right off.

Really, the only things that will change for you by me hosting this on SubStack is that if you are on other SubStacks, this may come in a bundle with other peoples’ posts. If you’re not, it’ll always come to you in a single email, just like it did before. Also, I will be setting up some segments at some point, and the cool thing is that it’ll be really easy for you to opt out of any segments you don’t want to be in, whereas on other platforms, it has to be done on the backend.

And finally, because it’s not just a newsletter platform, but also a blogging platform, you still have the option to respond to the email if you want OR you can leave a comment, which lets you interact with other people who are getting the emails. If you want to. Obviously, you don’t have to respond at all, but since I usually do get a few responses to every newsletter I send out, I figured it might be good to let you know that’s a thing.

So! That’s the SubStack thing. I will also still be updating my travel blog on SubStack whenever I’m traveling, so if you’re interested in such things, you can find that here.

And the other cool thing I’m doing right now that you might be interested in (other than writing my books), is some unhinged rambling on YouTube! I’ve always failed to stick with YouTube and other video platforms bc I get all perfectionist about it and write a script and do a zillion takes and edits and burn out really fast, so this time I’m doing unscripted, unedited videos and I’m doing them live so that I can’t do any takes — it’s just whatever happens.

Most of them are just me, but I’m also bringing on other authors too, which is fun. You can find that here. I wanted to wait to share it until I had some content up and felt like I was really going to stick with it, and honestly, it does feel like something I can absolutely stick with, and I’m having a lot of fun.
